Not going to say how I am related to one of the girls on the team that lost. From what I understand, the winning coach called the newspaper, to tout how good his team is. When it blew up in his face, namely, the losing team getting put of the front page......well, he has to eat crow now.

Yeah, so I have heard. One of the local TV stations showed up, and only one girl had the chutzpah to talk to them. (She isn't a blood relative, is all I will say.)

I was on the losing end of one of these waxings back in HS. The other team had a 7 footer, who was allowed to goal tend, w/o consequence. We pulled our starters, only one of which was 6', after the first quarter. The JVs and all the other scrubs were put in. Didn't stop the spoiled rich brat school from running up the score. They weren't the least bit embarrassed to pummel a team that put 4' 10" and 4' 8" guards on the court at the same time. I won't say who the 4' 8" one was.

As for this game........they would steal the inbounds pass, and lay it in. They didn't even have the decency to let them cross the time line, lob one up, bang off the iron, and take if from there. After they got 100, they backed off.

In the end, they're worse off than if they had been more sportsman-like.

But, you find jerks everywhere. (I won't give examples exactly where...)

I had both tasted victory on a team that never lost or even, what was considered a victory for the other teams, rarely ever got scored on, and experienced defeat on a team that never won, or even what was considered victory for us, rarely ever scored, and then back to the ever winning team once again.

I guess the lessons from that were not of the expected sportsmanship variety..

The advantage of basketball is that there is no goalkeeper to put the blame on.
100-0??!
Looks like girl stuff.
Oh, it is...

This has turned into a windfall for the losing team. Mark Cuban s going to let them see a Mavericks game in his private suite, and take them down to meet the team. Now that the local TV stations are on the story, the network morning "doo-dah" shows are showing up. One is filming them now.

The coach asked the girls if they wanted to quit at halftime, and they all wanted to keep going. Turned out to be a good thing.

The other school is getting lots of bad publicity, and they are the ones who were seeking the attention.

I hope not. This thing is getting out of hand. The girls were at the gym from 2 PM to 8 PM being interviewed and filmed.

What many do not understand is that this is a small school that deals with kids who have learning deficiencies of one sort or another. There are only 20 girls in the school, 8 of which are brave enough to attempt playing basketball. To watch a team with a 6' 2" "Amazon" beat them senseless for no purpose has the parents upset. Especially seeing the other parents carry on like they were beating the USSR national team.

Those girls have not won a game in over 4 years, and it will probably be another 4 years before they do manage to win one. Despite being down 59 points at halftime, they would not let the coach quit the game. No, they went back out there, and did the best they could.

Jez.... this has a Jessica Lynch type feel good movie of the week written all over it, there's no way it's not going to be on Oprah now, absolutely none... the little players that could, sniff.

One of the things I learned on those constrasting teams , it had SFA to do with "teamwork" or "hard work paying off" or effort or dedication or the like. What it had to do with was the guy in charge of the league, our coach, also did all the sign ups and the hand picking of players. Our team was stacked from the get go, the others got the trash, only reason I was there was because my mom knew his wife.. and he had to afford one or two of those...regulars.

I later got placed on the losing team for a season or two because it pissed him off when surrounded by their players, I was the only one on defence, got the ball from them but was sure to lose it, so I did the only thing I could and passed it to my goalie behind me.... who let it go right passed him into the net, and even though it was after the whistle the ref counted it as a goal. Rather than blame the goalie who was sleeping I got full credit, so what the hell you know, I revelled in the congratulations from the other team, it's not as though we were about to lose or anything.

So I earned my punishment on the worst team, 30% girls, 70% all short, some overweight, 99% non athletic.... someone's hockey mom for a coach. We went to every single game knowing in advance we were in for another humiliating thrashing defeat.

Somehow I wound up on the good team again eventually.. thanks mom, and didn't give a damn anymore, seeing how hollow the victories were. I also got quite sick that year, mono, took me out for months. Then some other things happened and long story short, somewhere there's a team picture, yep, "bulldogs", holding up their gold medals, with me in the middle looking a little sickly, smile from ear to ear, middle finger fully extended...never to play again.

So, this guy was proud enough of such a glorious victory that he had to brag to the press about it, a certain south park related theme song comes to mind. Frankly I'd rather see him interviewed, he deserves the press after all.

We have a weekly TV show here that is all about the worse teams of the (very) secondary leagues, the amateur ones.
This is football (or soccer, as you americans say).
What makes the news there is teams that after 15 matches have 0 points. 10-0 defeats is not uncommon either.
Lotsa fun.

That Rivals.com story confirms everything that I was told. Not that I doubted my source.

Lookers.........? Well, one place has 20 girls, and the other one has lots of students, most from spoiled households with money to spend on a fancy prep school. You decide.
