I'm looking at 2 way bookshelf speakers for my oldest son. He's 15 and just getting started down the path of DIYing.

He's put together a gainclone and I have a preamp for him.

I'm looking at the sledgling and the swifty, both from Madisound.

The pdf files for the kits are to big to post.

Anybody have any ideas, comments, experience with either kit, anything else?

Mike

Hi Mike,

I would exclude the sledging because I have serious doubts about those drivers working with that 1st order crossover.
Seems like the swifty would be a better move.

Time to bring this back to life;

Philipp (my oldest) and I were walking through GoodWill and found these old tired speakers for $2. I couldn't resist.

Brought 'em home, tore off the front panel and started to contemplate what to do. I decided on the Peerless 830874 6.5 inch and the Vifa D27TG-35-06 1 inch tweeter.

The rear of the speaker is ported.

Box volume is .9 cu/ft.

I got talked into trying a series crossover. Something I've never done or heard before so I did it. BIG mistake. At low volumes they weren't to bad but turn it up and the speakers were so forward and in your face they were unlistenable.

I went to Madisound. They design crossovers for a reasonable fee. I did it. Put the new crossovers in. Viola. There it is. So far these are the best sounding 2 ways I've ever heard.

They were put together to be up on a bookshelf close to the wall. For Philipp's bedroom.
