Let me speak to one of my associates. He's one of the best magnetic "guru's" in the States. (he designed the heads for the 3M tape machines, when those machines were worth something)

I would probably go with the 9230 series. Lower Q, so the filter won't ring.

They'll work, too. Not as retro looking, though.

I think I am going to go with the LC tuned CMOS stage at each location for the sine-square conversion. Drive each one from 75R at the clock. Maybe 1V or so RMS. Should be hard to do with a common-base driver. Looks like the easiest compromise of simplicity, tuned circuit response, and cheap (read: CMOS) parts. Not much different from what I use now. Just tuned to reduce out-of-band noise, and stepped up via resonance.

Thoughts, anyone? Yes, Clarke, that includes you.

Link coupled coils for galvanic isolation? EZ if you wind your own toroids. Not so EZ if you don't.

Gee, this is like real RF... It'll be interesting to hear what the sound improvement might be.

I haven't decided on that part yet. I really wanna build some crazy ECL-style stuff, but if I make it as complicated as I want to, it is going to take up a lot of space. And on several PCBs. So, I am trying to rein in my tendencies.

But at least I will get to use that roll of RG-187 that I bought a few years back and have not opened yet.

RG-187 is perfect for when the DAC catches on fire.

OK this hare-brained scheme is progressing. Made step-up transformer with a T50-6 (powdered iron) core, and stuck a tuned circuit on the output. Around 12 dB gain, so I may be able to drive a 'HC04U directly from my existing oscillator design.
