BTW, the speaker in the middle is most interesting among these to me. It is the egg shaped inside, and is filed with concrete. Initial results with mediocre Visaton drivers confirmed that the concept works very well, so the cabinets are now waiting for horns to move aside, so they will be tried with Scan Speak drivers.

I was lazy to post this earlier, but it's been done months ago now. The drivers used are 25W/8565-01 (electrically cut by 12dB LP), 15W/8530k01 (12dB HP, 6dB LP), and 2905/9700 (12dB HP).

These are undoubtedly my favorites among the speakers he made, and about the best conventional speakers I’ve heard. Of course, they would be better if I designed crossover... :) Dragan still prefers horns. However we almost totally agree about how they both sound, and about sonic differences between them. So we can live in peace from time to time. :friends:

As for their sonic qualities, they are able to fill the room with the sound, maybe better than anything else I’ve heard. Yet, as you may expect, the focus is not their best side. But it is not that bad either, as one may too easily conclude. Their acoustic source is not the point but horizontal half circle.

Pedja,

Slightly off topic............... I've abandon point source also and I would suggest that if you ever get a chance to listen to a good set of line arrays, go for it. Mine continue to amaze everyone that listens to them.

Admittedly, I have no experience with arrays. So I'll have this note on mind, thanks.

Me neither and this always get me thinking... about floor/ceiling/room reflections/resonances.
Line arrays have drivers literally down to the floor and up to the ceiling.
I know it does not need to be so drastic, but most are made this way - it beats me why.
Why would you want voices to come from the floor?
Is that really a good approach?

I am just asking, as I haven't heard line arrays.

The ribbon tweeters used in my line arrays have near zero vertical dispersion. Hence, no floor or ceiling reflections. A properly designed line source has some interesting virtues. Here's a link to Jim Griffin's Line Array White Paper http://www.systemsolutions.co.za/Tech%20Zone/Line%20Array%20White%20Paper.pdf. An interesting read. Also, if you email Rick Craig of Selah Audio I think you'll find him a super guy to discuss line arrays with. Here's some pictures of my line array which Rick did an exceptional job of designing. http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=37397.new;topicseen

Thanks for the info, Dan.

Audiocircle is locked with seven keys.
I'm not a member there, it doesn't show the thread. Just the login page.

Here's a few quick pictures. What is probably the most interesting part in these speakers is the Fountek http://www.madisound.com/manufacturers/fountek/index.php ribbons.

And now, the most basic undertake in this audio game. The room, built from the start for this purpose. Again to get some idea about dimensions, it is 3.1m high.

Please note the way the building blocks are oriented. This way they do great as diffusers, you can clap your hands standing right beside the wall, and... it is almost as you are outside. Ceiling will still need additional treatment. [As another local audio friend pointed out, people usually put heavy carpets to the floor, and leave the ceiling almost always plain flat.]
