I want to build a Class D amp (build not design :finga: ). What do YOU think would be the best design to use? The reason I ask here is that I got the feeling that there is a bunch of guys here that know what they are talking about in contrast to "some other forum". If you where going to the moon you would talk to NASA not the local hardware store... get it

So you want to build a class D amplifier. For what?

- Home amplifier for casual/serious/whatever listening at reasonable music levels with decent quality,
- "field party" amplifier which does hundreds of watts with less regard for sound quality,
- Something more specific (subwoofer class D?)

Also, what's your skill level as far as magnetics design, power supply design, etc?

HI,

Not to act like a wet blanket, my answer is NO! If you know how a class D amp is designed & works, you'd not disagree why I said so.

Besides it is hard to desgin right & build right, less alone its MUSICAL sound quality, the RFI emiited by a so-called perfect deisgn-built class D still is a pain to cotain so as not to comtaminate other analogue equipment.

If you are not a very seasoned diy amp builder with ample hand-on experience In digital stuff, it would be a huge can of worm to open up.

Join the long list of folks that hate me.............won't bother me............

Judging by the questions that you are asking, I would not advise you try to build one.

Besides, how can you "build" one without designing it first? You can't take an app note, whip out a PCB done in your bathroom sink and expect it to work.

Jocko, do you want to be liked? You can work on it you know. Bring forward only positive things and surpress the bad. Your day will become much better.

Session, there are not very many professionals that manage to design and build a good class D amp so even less amatuers manage this. If your application is less demanding I'm sure you can make a working amp at least.

I'm not interested what ANYONE in Sweden thinks of me. Least of all, you.

Nothing personal, I just don't need grief from "ankle biters".

Your first 3 posts here all criticised me. I can do without it.

Hi, "Ankle biter".

Class D is itself technically an extremely "demanding" topology, not for any diy Joe Blows to try & error. Build-it-right, let alone design-it-right, is not an easy job to make it a "working amp sat least" regardless more or even "less demanding" it.

Unlike any analogue topology, one can make it most or least demanding as one likes. "Cause analogue does not emit RFI that contaminates nearby appliances & equipment like class D does.

Off topic, but I was given a class-D subwoofer plate amplifier recently that had blown up. Cheap chinese piece of garbage.

First thing I see on the board? IR2110. In a fucking 8-pin DIP. WHAT?

I apologize for my remarks. The intention was to find methods for you to feel better.

Back to topic: There are two difficult areas in the class D subject. Switching the output stage. Modulation of the output stage.

Hi, fellow Canadian.

You are not only somewhat "off topc", you are "off" language as well by exposing yr temperament with the four-lettered F... word.

I would definitely try to refrain from using such language in the public.

PS: what else is not made in China? Walk in Walmart stores, you will find over 90% stuffs, from electronics to hardwares, are all "made in China". That's the realworld we got to cope with

Know what would make me feel better????.............several hundred thousand guys like you sending me $. Then I might be able to get a heart-lung transplant.

There..........any other personal details you guys feel like you need to know?

Since you guys won't send $ (or stop Googling into my life), I won't feel better. Or make PCBs.

Like I said..........nothing personal, just really tired of it all.

He is allowed to go o/t. We don't censor or limit our members, as long as they don't go way overboard. (Like one "fellow Canadian" did.)

Folks who make useful contributions over the long run usually are allowed to get away with more than the snipers.

OK, back to 'splaining why hobbyists shouldn't try to make a Class D from scratch.
