The 1000uf decoupling cap for the dac changed to 2200uf

What for?
That's too much IMHO.
Observe the circuit, think about how to improve it, take your time, measure it.

You can see two Rubycon ZL caps (the big black ones) at the right on my first pic.
They are 470uf/25V.
One went into the place of the 1000uf/6.3v cap on the 5V analog PSU of the dac.
The other one went to the place where there was no cap :!:, only a place for it, the 3.3V digital PSU of the dac (it only has a small ceramic on the dac pin).
I have the cap references covered by the bigger caps now...

Also, as the 5V PSU trace is daisy-chained from the regulator to the last dac (the front two channels), I've cut the trace right after the 220uf cap of the previous dac and installed a 470uH choke to the last cap, on the front channels dac (the Rubycon ZL on the 5V line).
Sorry... the cap references are under the caps now, but a pic should help.

Your %$%$$ Rega Planet 2000 is :Hangman: as a CDP (no matter what the mags say), but as a transport it's VERY GOOD.
And I mean the original, unmoded, unclocked cdp.
It has a very good SPDIF out.
Have you tried it as a transport, with a good dac?
You will struggle to find a better transport than your CDP.
Really. :cool2:

Leo, here's the PSU.
Most caps were changed for bigger ones and the big cap before the trafo is now a 100uf/450V (the original was 68uf/400V).
It coudn't be bigger, or the lid wouldn't fit.

The tray mod. :0003:
The tray has nothing to hold it on the back, it's completely floating.
It vibrates like hell.
There's one guide at the right that has a huge gap and is doing nothing.
I've put a very thin, small plastic bracer there.
The tray moves freely, but now it's much more secure.
I'll have to think about something for the left side, as it has no guide at all...

Forget it, they will look at you as if you were Saddam.
You will have to buy them abroad, if you can still find them.

(Hrm, hrm...)

I laugh because of the unusual answer, but I don?t think it?s true

Most of their clients are TV technicians and the like and they just find odd that there are people in the electronics world doing for fun what they do for a living, but they turn out to be nice persons once they get used to your presence. The girls at Dimofel are quite helpful and the "security officer", who?s always coughing to intimidate shop-lifters  is a good chap. Now a lost case will always be those guys at the Coliseu street with their arrogant "we don?t need any customers" attitude. That?s sad.

Cheers :drinkers:

I asked there and the "technician" looked at me as if I was Saddam: "what's that?".
I would have to explain him what's an SPDIF receiver...
The "security officer" once told me to always talk to the girls, they are more helpful. And they sure are.

Your right Carlos, 2200uf is too big but thats the only value I had at hand for a good cap although i've now managed to find a couple of 470uf Sanyo Oscons SG, 1000uf Panasonic FA and a few 220uf Rubycon ZL's , its amazing what you can find in your scrap box
Thanks again for your advice, its always welcome :finga:
BTW its my Birthday today, damn shame I've got work in the morning :drinkers:

Congratulations! :drinkers:

Hey, one more thing for you tomorrow:
The front channels of the multi-channel outputs are parallel to the stereo outputs.:Hangman:
Bypass the muting transistors the same way (remove the 2x220R resistors) and run two more 50R resistors from the main outputs.
Have a nice birthday.

Cheers matey!
I'll get the soldering iron out tomorrow once my head is a bit clearer :psycho:
So how good is the sound of your modded 575 compared to something like your dac?

Not finished yet, some other things got in the way...
But I don't hope the Pioneer will beat my TDA1541A dac, although I wished.
I will make it an analog stage with dedicated PSU.

I'm now modding a Sony DVP-NS900V (DVD/SACD) for a friend.
The Sony begs for a clock, the cheap Pioneer doesn't. :finga:

There is now 470uf Elna Stargets for the dacs 5v and 3v decoupling.
The bass sounds better although I still feel that the bass is still this players weekness.

Leo, I'm still modding mine.
This is not a tweak, it's a project. :finga:
News soon.
