Is this worth playing around with, seeing the TDA1541S1-Crowns have such a cult following it's the rear end of a Teac D500 dac that I can get my hands on.

Errr, why?
Do you think the DSP does a bad job here?

I would leave that part alone and concentrate on the 1541 powersupply
and the outputstage. Maybe a D1 stage instead of those opamps.

And apply DEM reclocking to the TDA's.

And carefully look at the clock, can't see here were it is generated and how
Reclocking comes to mind. That DSP could be jittery.

The large square device is a gate array. The DF is the SM5803. The are better options available.
