Which I have been sorry to read, here and elsewhere. Natural-born teachers are few and far between, and (at a distance, and as an amateur who messes with solder occasionally) I have gleaned an awful lot from Jim William's many clear app notes - and the books he edited. Deft, easy to read, sometimes just funny, but always full of Good Stuff - it's an art he made his own.

PS I think his Linear Tech AN47, on High Speed Amplifiers, is an utter classic of technical writing in any metier. It covers more ground and in better detail - right down to 'how to use an oscilloscope' - than any other single document on analogue / linear amplification I can think of. I still see something new in it, every time.

Can it get worse? Yes, Bob Pease passed away yesterday:
Quote:
Bob was killed in a car crash, while not wearing a seat belt, on 19 June 2011[6] after attending the memorial service of Jim Williams (analog designer), another renowned staff scientist working at Linear Technology.
